Progressive cavity pumps

Progressive cavity pumps

Progressive cavity pumps cannot run dry, and are seldom-self-priming, so that priming must be carried out by hand before every fluid batch or fluid change.

Progressive cavity pumps suffer from rapid wear if particles drop out of solution or if an abrasive suspended solid lodges within the cavity.

Progressive cavity pumps have a large stator in contact alternately with the rotor and the duty fluid. Particles easily become detached and entrained with the fluid flow.

Progressive cavity pump rotor replacement is a skilled task requiring a long downtime.

Progressive cavity pumps have a very narrow application band to avoid premature wear.

Watson-Marlow Bredel peristaltic pumps win on all counts:

  • Unlimited dry running
  • Good abrasive handling
  • Low maintenance
  • Versatile
